The public transport exchange went from Prague to Tallinn

Logistics companies are used to transporting various types of cargo, but occasionally a task appears that requires much more than just a standard procedure. Do you know what a substation for public transport is? One such just recently travelled from the Czech Republic to Estonia. The specific transport required a special approach and careful organisation.

In this case, the public transport substation technology being transported is intended to power the tram trolley. This is a very important piece of infrastructure that enables the operation of electric transport in urban areas. One of these was needed for public transport in Tallinn, Estonia, and was manufactured by the Czech company ELEKTROTECHNIKA, a.s. from Prague. The company has a long tradition and rich experience in designing and manufacturing reliable, modern and energy-saving technologies for public transport, formerly operating under the ČKD brand. The final visual appearance of the substation was conceived with respect to its sensitive integration into the surrounding environment, which was one of the important requirements of the customer.

It had to be transported safely from Prague to Tallinn, so ELEKTROTECHNIKA, a.s. turned to SPEDITION FEICO, a subsidiary of Geis, which is an expert in specific transports.  SPEDITION FEICO's Sales Director Jana Moravčíková says: "We transport a lot of things, but the substation was a really new, interesting experience."

The self-service substation system is made up of two concrete containers that are connected once they arrive at their destination. This allowed this unusual shipment to be split into two parts, each measuring 668x314x360cm and weighing 38,900kg and 41,700kg respectively.

But the transport itself was not just a matter of loading up and getting on the road. It required special preparation, only a night drive between 10pm and 6am and precise route planning. It was necessary to ensure that the shipment travelled safely and without complications. Thanks to the experience of the SPEDITION FEICO team and careful organisation, the two containers were delivered to Tallinn on schedule without any problems.
