It uses technology to expedite over 1.5 million orders a year. From pacifiers to textiles to strollers and baby furniture. Tens of thousands of babymarkt.de's baby products are handled in our warehouse near Chomutov. Products are expedited from here to almost all of Europe using modern technology.
Within the 25,000 m2 of space for babymarkt.de (known in the Czech Republic as the e-shop www.pinkorblue.cz), we stock 94,000 positions with a variety of goods for children from birth to around 7 years of age. As there are a lot of items, we had to develop a suitable concept for the layout of the products in the warehouse so that their movement is as efficient as possible. We store the smaller products in boxes in one part of the warehouse and the larger ones on pallet positions in another part. We have approximately 25,000 pallet places.
Warehouse management system helps efficiency
We receive, store, pick, pack and dispatch goods for babymarkt.de. As part of our extra services, our employees pack the goods with flyers according to the current requirements of babymarkt.de. All activities are managed by the Warehouse Management System (WMS), which is precisely adapted to the needs of this specific project. Thanks to it, individual activities and processes can be optimised and managed correctly so that inefficient activities or even errors do not occur.
We and babymarkt.de are very pleased with the cooperation and its set-up. Christian Borghardt, Head of contract logistics at babymarkt.de is satisfied with Geis' services: "Thanks to their efficient technology, flexibility and, last but not least, professionalism, we are able to deliver smoothly and on time to our customers all over Europe." Aleš Ležal, Site Manager at Geis Solutions CZ, confirms this: "We appreciate the partner we have found in babymarkt.de. Even though this project is above standard in terms of the number of items, we have managed to optimize our services to the customer's satisfaction."
Journey of goods
Depending on the season, between 2,500 and 6,500 shipments leave the warehouse near Chomutov every day. Each picker in the smaller goods section of the warehouse can simultaneously pick up to twelve orders in twelve boxes. This is also thanks to modern image technology. The scanner suggests the optimal route to the individual products and offers pictorial clues to help the picker see what the goods look like. This makes the process faster. Depending on whether and what other products are in the order, additional products are added to the box during its journey through the warehouse, perhaps on a different floor, where the box is automatically moved by a roller track. Large goods are not put into the boxes that move on the roller conveyor, but are picked separately on the shelves.
Properly packed...
If a consignment for a single recipient consists of only smaller products, the box containing them is transported to one of the three packing areas that is exclusively for smaller goods. The second area is for shipments that contain only large items. If the order contains a mixture of small and large goods, the shipment is consolidated and packed in the third packing area. The WMS itself selects a suitable box for packing the shipment so that the staff does not have to pick it out in a complicated way.
...and send to the end customer
Once the goods are successfully packed, we hand over the shipments to the carriers for distribution to the end customers. This is almost all over Europe - from Spain to Slovakia and from Scandinavia to Italy. Even in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, this e-shop is popular, so the goods sometimes don't travel very far. And which goods are the best sellers? This varies throughout the year, but a constant is the dining chair from a Norwegian manufacturer.
